Tetanus Vaccines

//Tetanus Vaccines

Adverse Reactions

Tetanus toxoid (vaccine) reactions include swelling and pain at the injection site; sleepiness; irritability; vomiting; loss of appetite; persistent crying, fever, paleness, cold skin, collapse, rash, joint pain, anaphylaxis shock. (1, 2, 3)

Tetanus Vaccine Long-Term Effects

In 1994 the Institute of Medicine concluded that there is compelling scientific evidence to conclude that tetanus, DT and Td vaccines can cause Guillain-Barre syndrome including death; brachial neuritis; and death from anaphylaxis (shock). (4) Encephalitis and neuropathy have also been well documented. (5, 6, 7)

Tetanus is Extremely Rare

In 1948 there were 601 cases of tetanus reported in the U.S., the highest number of cases reported in one year – even though the tetanus vaccine was in use since 1890. Currently in the US, there are about 100 cases and approximately five deaths each year, usually in the elderly and immunocompromised.

Wound Cleaning is Best Prevention

Careful attention to wound hygiene will eliminate the possibility of tetanus in most cases. Deep puncture wounds and wounds with a lot of dead tissue should be thoroughly cleaned and not allowed to close until healing has occurred beneath the skin. http://www.mindbodyfocused.com/body/wound-care.php

Holistic Wound Cleansing

http://pathlights.com/nr_encyclopedia/16pois04.htm

Tetanus Declined Due to Improved Living Conditions

Sanitation, nutrition, year around nutritional improvements, changes in farming mechanism, general hygiene, and especially wound hygiene had reduced the mortality and incidence of tetanus by as much as 99.8 percent before the widespread use of tetanus vaccine. The tetanus vaccine has had nothing to do with the decline of tetanus.(1, 2) Mortality rates plummeted dramatically from 64/100,000 in 1900 to 8/100,000 in 1940. By 1950, with most mothers still unvaccinated, it was 4.5/100,000.(3)

Vaccination at the Time of Injury is of NO Use

Antibody levels do not rise until 4 days after vaccination.(5) Paseen writes: “There is no absolute or universal protective level of antibody… The level of neutralizing antibody in humans currently considered protective, 0.01 antitoxin unit/ml, is based on animal studies that correlated levels with symptoms or death” This figure was proposed by Sneath in 1937, and subsequently accepted by most investigators. But not everybody agreed. “Ipsen found that there is a distinct but specific relationship to toxin challenge in each species. Experimental human data are extremely limited and insufficient for analysis.”

Tetanus Vaccine Failures

During the Second World War, five U.S. soldiers died from tetanus; one of them was fully immunized, the others partly. During that same war, the British Army incurred 22 tetanus cases; half of them died. All of the deaths were partly immunized.(6) Civilian tetanus in fully vaccinated people is well-documented.(7,8) Tetanus incidence in the vaccinated and unvaccinated is approximately equal. The vaccine is approximately as effective as distilled water. When drug companies advertise that the vaccine is 80% effective, it only means they reported antibodies in 80% (or some such percentage) of the people in the efficacy study. Antibodies do not infer, or in any way guarantee, protection.

Myths

Anecdotally tetanus is often associated with rust, especially rusty nails, but this relationship is somewhat misleading. Objects that accumulate rust are often found outdoors, or in places that harbor anaerobic bacteria, but the rust itself does not cause tetanus nor does it contain more C. tetani bacteria.
