Diptheria Vaccines

//Diptheria Vaccines

Strictly speaking diphtheria vaccines, like tetanus vaccines, are actually toxoids. Because diphtheria toxoids are only given in conjunction with tetanus toxoids, it is impossible to single out one of them when reactions occur.
Adverse Reactions

Diptheria/tetanus reactions are listed below. Study the data. Weigh the risk for yourself.

Diphtheria (based on Greek for “leather”), is an upper respiratory tract illness characterized by sore throat, low-grade fever, and an adherent membrane (a pseudomembrane) on the tonsil(s), pharynx, and/or nose. A milder form of diphtheria can be limited to the skin.

Already on the Decline

The mortality rate of diphtheria has declined 50% between 1900 and 1920 (Mortimer, 1978) The vaccine (more accurately, as toxoid) was invented in 1923. With improvements in sanitation, nutrition and living conditions, susceptibility to communicable disease wereon the decline already. The vaccine had little if anything to do with this diphtheria’s decline.
Questionable Effectiveness

The mandatory diphtheria vaccine the Germans used in WW2 caused a 17% increase in incidence of diphtheria and 600% increase in death from diphtheria. Incidence declined only after vaccination programs had halted.

Diptheria is Extremely Rare

In the 1980’s there were 0 to 5 cases reported per year.

Vaccine Failures

The Chicago epidemics of 1969 revealed that 25% of cases had been fully vaccinated and an additional 12% were partially vaccinated (but had serologically established immunity).
